Our Story
From Sicily to Squirrel Hill
In 1955, Giovanni “John” Mineo left Bagheria, Sicily — a small town near Palermo — and came to America with a dream. Three years later, riding the Squirrel Hill electric street car down Murray Avenue, he spotted an empty storefront and knew he'd found his home.
Since 1958, three generations of the Mineo family have been hand-rolling dough, simmering homemade sauce from Italian tomatoes, and perfecting their signature “buried toppings” style with aged provolone. What started as one man's dream is now a Pittsburgh institution.
